Suggested Microvolunteering Actions for Ending Poverty

CREATE

create a moving visual aimed at raising awareness about economic inequality

interview a poor person and share his/her story

recycle or up cycle a to-be-donated object.

SHARE

donate your old, but useful stuff: *clothing, *furniture, *books and CDs, * toys and games

share information about free services and “no access fee” places in your community: *libraries, *playgrounds, *shelters, *clinics, *soup kitchens

share information about current freebies, discounts, sales and giveaways

share contacts of charity groups who can lend a helping hand

share calls for stuff donations

sign an opened letter or petition against homelessness

share tips for budgeting and saving money

post on behalf of those who can’t use the internet

ORGANIZE

proofread someone’s application for financial aid or social benefits

help review the impact of an anti-poverty project

scan and upload free cultural and educational resources: *books, *movies, *games, *artworks

make a phone call or share your wi-fi with someone who can’t afford a data plan

write a letter to a public servant who is responsible with poverty reduction

map free resources and services in your community

help collect, sort and pack donations

organize a max 1 h webinar teaching the use of free digital tools

Ideas, trends and experiments:

Achieve local solidarity through the organized collecting of donations and timebanking. Microvolunteers could coordinate the exchange of skills and objects without asking anyone for money.

” Corporate adoption”: a company’s staff could decide to adopt an orphanage, a hospital, a day care center or a shelter with each individual employee contributing his skills to the team’s efforts in order to improve the chosen place and make life better for its residents.
